Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
