Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session

The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.

Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.

Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team followed a different programme.

Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.

The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.

The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.

The veteran wrapped up in 19th, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.

The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's best.

The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
